Soft Drink Market Size in Uzbekistan

The Uzbek soft drink market expanded rapidly to $X in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, overseas shipments of soft drinks increased by 7.2% to X litres for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The exports peaked at X litres in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Uzbekistan, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, soft drink exports to Kyrgyzstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kazakhstan (X litres), threefold. South Korea (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.2% share.

From 2017 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kyrgyzstan amounted to -3.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-20.3% per year) and South Korea (+290.6% per year).

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) remains the key foreign market for soft drink exports from Uzbekistan, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 9.9% share.

From 2017 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Kyrgyzstan stood at -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-16.1% per year) and Tajikistan (-28.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, rising by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tajikistan (+37.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uzbekistan

For the third year in a row, Uzbekistan recorded growth in supplies from abroad of soft drinks, which increased by 236% to X litres in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 1,854%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, soft drink imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 1,603% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, Russia (X litres) was the main supplier of soft drink to Uzbekistan, accounting for a 90% share of total imports. It was followed by Georgia (X litres), with a 2.9% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X litres), with a 2.5% share.

From 2017 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia stood at +81.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Georgia (+161.7% per year) and Poland (+415.2% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Uzbekistan, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 2.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Georgia, with a 2.3% share.

From 2017 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia amounted to +70.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+275.6% per year) and Georgia (+136.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, waning by -6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 a decrease of -1.2%. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Poland ($X per litre) and Russia ($X per litre), while the price for Georgia ($X per litre) and Kazakhstan ($X per litre) were amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
