After two years of decline, the Uzbek unmanufactured tobacco market increased by 15% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible descent. Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for unmanufactured tobacco exports from Uzbekistan, accounting for a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, unmanufactured tobacco exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tajikistan (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ukraine (X tons), with a 4.9% share.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for tobacco (unmanufactured) exports from Uzbekistan, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.8% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia stood at +35.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-27.3% per year) and Belarus (0.0% per year).

In 2022, the average unmanufactured tobacco export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 86% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of unmanufactured tobacco to Uzbekistan, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, unmanufactured tobacco imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with an 8.8% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil amounted to +54.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+30.6% per year) and Italy (+67.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest unmanufactured tobacco suppliers to Uzbekistan were Brazil ($X), India ($X) and Mozambique ($X), together accounting for 60% of total imports.

Mozambique, with a CAGR of +560.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average unmanufactured tobacco import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -13.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 1.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
