Tomato Market Size in Uzbekistan

In 2021, the average tomato yield in Uzbekistan amounted to X tons per ha, rising by 3.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the average tomato yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the harvested area of tomatoes in Uzbekistan stood at X ha, remaining constant against 2020 figures. In general, the harvested area, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 5%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to tomato production attained the peak figure at X ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Uzbekistan
In 2021, overseas shipments of tomatoes decreased by -21.1% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2017 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, tomato exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2017 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -13.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) were the main destinations of tomato exports from Uzbekistan, together accounting for 98% of total exports. Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 2%.
From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +97.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for tomato exported from Uzbekistan were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), together comprising 97% of total exports. Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 2.5%.
Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +89.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average tomato export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+30.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Tomato Imports
Imports into Uzbekistan
In 2021, tomato imports into Uzbekistan dropped rapidly to X tons, with a decrease of -71% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 904%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tomato imports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 386%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of tomato to Uzbekistan, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kazakhstan (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia amounted to +39.4%.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tomato to Uzbekistan, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia stood at +66.1%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average tomato import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 88% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the price for Russia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
