Luggage Market Size in Venezuela

The Venezuelan luggage market expanded sharply to $X in 2021, picking up by 9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of luggage and handbags was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, faced a precipitous decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 67%. The United States (X kg), Senegal (X kg) and the Dominican Republic (X kg) were the main destinations of luggage exports from Venezuela, together comprising 60% of total exports. Australia, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, the UK and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 150%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Peru (+29.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Venezuela

In 2021, luggage imports into Venezuela surged to X tons, growing by 43% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 92%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of luggage to Venezuela, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, luggage imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), more than tenfold. Panama (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.
