In 2021, overseas purchases of wine increased by 50% to X litres, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 120% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 109%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X litres), Argentina (X litres) and Chile (X litres) were the main suppliers of wine imports to Venezuela, together accounting for 65% of total imports. Italy, Portugal, Panama and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Panama (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest wine suppliers to Venezuela were Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Panama, France and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 21%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per litre), while the price for Argentina ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
