Beer Market Size in Vietnam
The Vietnamese beer market shrank slightly to $X in 2022, waning by -3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw resilient growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Beer Production in Vietnam
In value terms, beer production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 165% against the previous year. Beer production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Vietnam
In 2022, approx. X tons of beer were exported from Vietnam; shrinking by -6.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +10.3% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 147%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, beer exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main destinations of beer exports from Vietnam, with a combined 35% share of total exports. Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 51%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +101.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for beer exported from Vietnam were the United States ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 35% of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Kenya, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 51%.
Among the main countries of destination, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +93.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average beer export price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 6.6%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2022, approx. X tons of beer were imported into Vietnam; waning by -6% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 249%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, beer imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest beer supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, beer imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tons), twofold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +29.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+9.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+8.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beer to Vietnam, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands totaled +31.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+10.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (+10.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average beer import price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
