In 2021, the amount of bituminous mixtures imported into Vietnam soared to X tons, picking up by 29% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bituminous mixtures imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of bituminous mixtures imports to Vietnam, with a combined 86% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, the UK, the United States and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +26.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
