Butanone Market Size in Vietnam

In 2022, the Vietnamese butanone market decreased by -0.5% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, showed buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of butanone (methyl ethyl ketone) decreased by -18.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 620%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, butanone exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 686%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Myanmar (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of butanone exports from Vietnam, together comprising 60% of total exports. Pakistan, Australia, South Korea, Cambodia and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +106.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Myanmar ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest markets for butanone exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined 61% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +102.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average butanone export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 54% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Australia ($X per ton) and Myanmar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+67.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of butanone (methyl ethyl ketone), when their volume decreased by -5.5% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, butanone imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 77%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of butanone imports to Vietnam, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) appeared to be the largest butanone suppliers to Vietnam, together comprising 94% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +18.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average butanone import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
