In 2021, exports of ceramic household articles and toilet articles from Vietnam stood at X tons, standing approx. at 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic household article exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main destinations of ceramic household article exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 19% of total exports. Germany, Japan, Poland, China, the UK, the Netherlands, Cameroon, Argentina, New Zealand and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cameroon (with a CAGR of +53.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Italy ($X) and Australia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for ceramic household article exported from Vietnam worldwide, together comprising 20% of total exports. Germany, Japan, the UK, the Netherlands, China, Poland, Hong Kong SAR, New Zealand, Argentina and Cameroon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Cameroon, with a CAGR of +39.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average ceramic household article export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 24% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 31%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2021, purchases abroad of ceramic household articles and toilet articles decreased by -18.2% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 128% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic household article imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 73%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic household article to Vietnam, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic household article imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Indonesia (X tons), with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +13.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+0.4% per year) and Indonesia (+2.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic household articles and toilet articles to Vietnam, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +16.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+3.7% per year) and Indonesia (+4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average ceramic household article import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ceramic household article import price increased by +21.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 77% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Indonesia ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
