Chlorides Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese chlorides market shrank to $X in 2021, declining by -9.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded resilient growth. Chlorides consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) increased by 20% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 202% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 148% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cambodia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 64% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +82.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Myanmar ($X), Cambodia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for chlorides exported from Vietnam worldwide, together accounting for 68% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +64.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average chlorides export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 88%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+74.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, imports of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) into Vietnam declined to X tons, reducing by -9.6% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, chlorides imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 116%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides to Vietnam, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), ninefold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +19.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+64.8% per year) and Indonesia (+47.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) to Vietnam, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+55.0% per year) and the United States (+47.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
