Market Size for Cider, Perry, Mead And Other Fermented Beverages in Vietnam

The Vietnamese cider, perry and mead market declined significantly to $X in 2021, dropping by -22.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead production declined markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In 2021, cider, perry and mead exports from Vietnam reduced slightly to X litres, waning by -5% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 171% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 183%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Thailand (X litres), Japan (X litres) and Australia (X litres) were the main destinations of cider, perry and mead exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +99.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for cider, perry and mead exported from Vietnam were Thailand ($X), Japan ($X) and Australia ($X), together accounting for 93% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Australia, with a CAGR of +63.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average cider, perry and mead export price amounted to $X per litre, growing by 2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 7.5%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Australia ($X per litre) and Japan ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Liberia ($X per litre) and Thailand ($X per litre) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam

For the fourth year in a row, Vietnam recorded decline in overseas purchases of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages, which decreased by -0.2% to X litres in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 58%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Japan (X litres), South Korea (X litres) and New Zealand (X litres) were the main suppliers of cider, perry and mead imports to Vietnam, together comprising 72% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for New Zealand (with a CAGR of +26.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cider, perry and mead suppliers to Vietnam were Japan ($X), Singapore ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by New Zealand, France, Thailand and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Among the main suppliers, New Zealand, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average cider, perry and mead import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, picking up by 4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per litre), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
