Common Pottery Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese common pottery market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, falling by -2.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Common pottery consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Common Pottery Production in Vietnam

In value terms, common pottery production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 36%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Vietnam

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of common pottery, when their volume increased by 2% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -16.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 57%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Canada (X tons) was the main destination for common pottery exports from Vietnam, with a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, common pottery exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada amounted to +111.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-11.0% per year) and the United States (+11.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for common pottery exported from Vietnam were Canada ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 45% of total exports.

Canada, with a CAGR of +97.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average common pottery export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Brunei Darussalam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Common Pottery Imports

Imports into Vietnam

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of common pottery increased by 38% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 145%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest common pottery supplier to Vietnam, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, common pottery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +31.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+0.2% per year) and France (+49.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common pottery to Vietnam, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +36.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+8.7% per year) and France (+60.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average common pottery import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, common pottery import price increased by +29.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 44%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from South Korea ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
