In 2021, shipments abroad of crispbread decreased by -10% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 61%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crispbread exports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The Philippines (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of crispbread exports from Vietnam, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Canada, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Taiwan (Chinese), Germany and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +56.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for crispbread exported from Vietnam were the United States ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Canada ($X), with a combined 77% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Germany, India, the Philippines and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Among the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +75.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 269%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, crispbread imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 265% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main suppliers of crispbread imports to Vietnam, with a combined 80% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), Sweden, Australia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +103.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest crispbread suppliers to Vietnam, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), Sweden, Germany and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
