Frozen Poultry Liver Market Size in Vietnam

In 2022, the Vietnamese frozen poultry liver market increased by 23% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep reduction. Frozen poultry liver consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of frozen poultry livers and offal decreased by -83.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 466% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 543%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for frozen poultry liver exports from Vietnam, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen poultry liver exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), more than tenfold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +31.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+37.1% per year) and Japan (-2.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for frozen poultry livers and offal exports from Vietnam, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 5.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +40.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+40.5% per year) and Pakistan (+20.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average frozen poultry liver export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen poultry liver export price increased by +83.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in overseas purchases of frozen poultry livers and offal, when their volume increased by 4.6% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen poultry liver to Vietnam, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen poultry liver imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Iran (X tons), with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at -5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-7.1% per year) and Iran (-11.5% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of frozen poultry livers and offal to Vietnam, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States amounted to -5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-5.7% per year) and Poland (+13.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average frozen poultry liver import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
