Fructose Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese fructose market fell significantly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -21.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Fructose Production in Vietnam

In value terms, fructose production reduced dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +78.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 156%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports from Vietnam

In 2021, the amount of fructose and fructose syrup exported from Vietnam skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 81% against the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 413% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fructose exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 438%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 96% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China stood at +54.0%.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for fructose and fructose syrup exports from Vietnam, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 3.5% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average fructose export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fructose export price decreased by -2.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+22.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, imports of fructose and fructose syrup into Vietnam skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 23% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fructose imports declined slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 28%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main suppliers of fructose imports to Vietnam, with a combined 66% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +79,759.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fructose suppliers to Vietnam were China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Bulgaria ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +49,979.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average fructose import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -22.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 35% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Malaysia ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
