In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Vietnamese fungicide and bactericide market, when its value increased by 94% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, overseas shipments of fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments decreased by -45.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 147% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 146%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of fungicide and bactericide exports from Vietnam, together comprising 52% of total exports. Cambodia, India, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +456.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X) were the largest markets for fungicide and bactericide exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +441.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fungicide and bactericide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fungicide and bactericide export price decreased by -5.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments, when their volume increased by 75% to X tons. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of fungicide and bactericide imports to Vietnam, together accounting for 53% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +27.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fungicide and bactericide suppliers to Vietnam were Thailand ($X), China ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 35% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +30.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fungicide and bactericide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 9%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
