The Vietnamese market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste production expanded markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

For the fourth consecutive year, Vietnam recorded growth in overseas shipments of jams, jellies, puree and pastes, which increased by 1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 820% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 922% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for jam, jelly, puree and paste exports from Vietnam, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), threefold. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States stood at +51.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+23.6% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+41.1% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes exports from Vietnam, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +55.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+26.5% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+44.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Jams, Jellies, Puree And Pastes
Imports into Vietnam
For the eighth consecutive year, Vietnam recorded growth in overseas purchases of jams, jellies, puree and pastes, which increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of jam, jelly, puree and paste imports to Vietnam, together comprising 62% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, France, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Germany and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 33%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +55.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste suppliers to Vietnam, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Indonesia, France, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Germany and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +55.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 51%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Thailand ($X per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) and the United States ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
