Oleo Oils Market Size in Vietnam
In 2021, the Vietnamese oleo oils market decreased by -11.7% to $X for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. Oleo oils consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports from Vietnam
In 2021, shipments abroad of lard stearin, lard oil, oleostearin, oleo-oil and tallow oil decreased by -14% to X tons, falling for the eighth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 133% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, oleo oils exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) was the main destination for oleo oils exports from Vietnam, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to -25.8%.
In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) also remains the key foreign market for lard stearin, lard oil, oleostearin, oleo-oil and tallow oil exports from Vietnam.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Taiwan (Chinese) totaled -14.5%.
Export Prices by Country
The average oleo oils export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Taiwan (Chinese).
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +15.3% per year.
Oleo Oils Imports
Imports into Vietnam
For the third year in a row, Vietnam recorded decline in overseas purchases of lard stearin, lard oil, oleostearin, oleo-oil and tallow oil, which decreased by -46.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 369% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, oleo oils imports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 297% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X kg) were the main suppliers of oleo oils imports to Vietnam, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +122.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest oleo oils suppliers to Vietnam, together accounting for 80% of total imports.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +43.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average oleo oils import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 159%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+29.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
