Lead Market Size in Vietnam
After six years of growth, the Vietnamese lead market decreased by -2.3% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption saw a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Lead Production in Vietnam
In value terms, lead production fell slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +3.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 57%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Vietnam
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of lead, when their volume increased by 49% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 74%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lead exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of lead exports from Vietnam, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Japan, Australia, South Korea and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +123.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for lead exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined 76% share of total exports.
India, with a CAGR of +98.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average lead export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -11.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam
Lead imports into Vietnam totaled X tons in 2022, with an increase of 8.6% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 32%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lead imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 35%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest lead supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, lead imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea amounted to +17.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+10.1% per year) and India (+58.1% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lead to Vietnam, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from South Korea amounted to +17.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+62.6% per year) and China (+11.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average lead import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Cambodia ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
