Lead Ore Market Size in Vietnam

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Vietnamese lead ore market, when its value increased by 66% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a mild shrinkage. Lead ore consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of lead ores, when their volume increased by 0.8% to X tons. In general, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 421% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lead ore exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 537% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for lead ore exports from Vietnam, accounting for a approx. 99% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China stood at +50.2%.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the key foreign market for lead ore exports from Vietnam.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +58.0%.

Export Prices by Country

The average lead ore export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 71%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +5.2% per year.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, supplies from abroad of lead ores was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lead ore imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a notable expansion. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of lead ore imports to Vietnam, together comprising 83% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Malaysia (with a CAGR of +33.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lead ore to Vietnam, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Lao People's Democratic Republic was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+7.3% per year) and the United States (-48.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average lead ore import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, lead ore import price decreased by -25.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 38%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+64.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
