Magnetic Media Market Size in Vietnam

For the third consecutive year, the Vietnamese magnetic media market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -41.9% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption faced a sharp decline. Magnetic media consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe exported from Vietnam skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 54% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, magnetic media exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 110% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X units) was the main destination for magnetic media exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Nepal (X units), with a 0.9% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X units), with a 0.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia stood at +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nepal (-28.0% per year) and South Korea (-32.0% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe exports from Vietnam, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Nepal, with a 0.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia amounted to +15.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-24.2% per year) and Nepal (-33.2% per year).

In 2021, the average magnetic media export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -56.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 288% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+39.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe decreased by -39.6% to X units, falling for the fifth year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, magnetic media imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Japan (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and Norway (X units) were the main suppliers of magnetic media imports to Vietnam, together accounting for 43% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Norway (with a CAGR of +53.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average magnetic media import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 93% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the price for Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
