Metallised Yarn Market Size in Vietnam

In 2021, the Vietnamese metallised yarn market increased by 11% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, the total consumption indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 205%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Vietnam

For the fourth year in a row, Vietnam recorded growth in shipments abroad of metallised yarn and strip, which increased by 68% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 2,171%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for metallised yarn exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, metallised yarn exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sri Lanka (X tons), more than tenfold. Canada (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +99.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+39.8% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for metallised yarn exports from Vietnam, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 1.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +88.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+43.1% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average metallised yarn export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -37.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 11%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+26.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Metallised Yarn Imports

Imports into Vietnam

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of metallised yarn and strip increased by 46% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metallised yarn imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 146%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest metallised yarn supplier to Vietnam, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, metallised yarn imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+55.8% per year) and South Korea (-15.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest metallised yarn suppliers to Vietnam were China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 95% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Japan, with a CAGR of +97.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average metallised yarn import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 69%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
