Non-Wheat Flour Market Size in Vietnam
After six years of decline, the Vietnamese non-wheat flour market increased by 0.4% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Non-Wheat Flour Production in Vietnam
In value terms, non-wheat flour production reduced modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 63%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of non-wheat flours, when their volume decreased by -8.7% to X tons. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 150% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Philippines (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong SAR, Canada and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +323.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Vietnam were the Philippines ($X), the United States ($X) and Australia ($X), together accounting for 67% of total exports. New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong SAR, Canada and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Among the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +308.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average non-wheat flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($X per ton) and Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Cambodia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of non-wheat flours, when their volume decreased by -30.6% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 183%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports fell notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 172% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-wheat flour imports to Vietnam, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +120.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat flour suppliers to Vietnam were Thailand ($X), Cambodia ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +152.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +7.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Australia ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
