Nucleic acid exports from Vietnam fell slightly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -2% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 390% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nucleic acid exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 348% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of nucleic acid exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 82% of total exports. Singapore and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of nucleic acids and their salts increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 77%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nucleic acid imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 130% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nucleic acid to Vietnam, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, nucleic acid imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X tons), with a 1.6% share.

In 2021, the average nucleic acid import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period.
