After four years of decline, the Vietnamese cyclic hydrocarbons market increased by 9.2% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 51%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of other cyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -99.4% to X kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 9,219% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X kg) was the main destination for cyclic hydrocarbons exports from Vietnam, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled -74.6%.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) also remains the key foreign market for other cyclic hydrocarbons exports from Vietnam.

The average cyclic hydrocarbons export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 128% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Saudi Arabia.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Singapore amounted to +127.6% per year.

Cyclic hydrocarbons imports into Vietnam amounted to X tons in 2021, growing by 2.3% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports posted a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 220%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons imports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest cyclic hydrocarbons supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, cyclic hydrocarbons imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), sevenfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +32.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-8.5% per year) and Spain (-15.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of other cyclic hydrocarbons to Vietnam, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +32.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-8.9% per year) and Spain (-16.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average cyclic hydrocarbons import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -12.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($X per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
