Perfume Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese perfume market declined to $X in 2022, reducing by -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of perfumes and toilet waters increased by 538% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 1,070%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, perfume exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 1,035%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Myanmar (X tons) was the main destination for perfume exports from Vietnam, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Myanmar stood at +154.1%.

In 2022, the average perfume export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -84.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Myanmar.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of perfumes and toilet waters, when their volume increased by 3.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 237%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, perfume imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 280% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Singapore (X tons), France (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Vietnam, together accounting for 47% of total imports. China, South Korea, Spain and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +76.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constituted the largest supplier of perfumes and toilet waters to Vietnam, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Singapore totaled +26.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+19.4% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+25.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average perfume import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, perfume import price increased by +121.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
