Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

India (X tons), Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports from Vietnam, with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, South Africa and Poland, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exported from Vietnam were India ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, the Netherlands, the United States, South Africa and Poland, which together accounted for a further 20%.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to India ($X per ton) and South Africa ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam

In 2021, the amount of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imported into Vietnam soared to X tons, growing by 61% compared with the year before. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 180%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest phosphorus, arsenic and selenium supplier to Vietnam, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Colombia (X tons), with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Japan amounted to +93.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+118.3% per year) and Colombia (+137.2% per year).

In value terms, the largest phosphorus, arsenic and selenium suppliers to Vietnam were Japan ($X), South Korea ($X) and Colombia ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +29.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average phosphorus, arsenic and selenium import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -41.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price faced a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
