Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, roasted malt exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 3,906%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Cambodia (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main destinations of roasted malt exports from Vietnam.

The average roasted malt export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, roasted malt export price increased by +13.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+42.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of roasted malt increased by 4.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 218%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roasted malt imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 219%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of roasted malt to Vietnam, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, roasted malt imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France amounted to -19.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-26.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-10.2% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted malt to Vietnam, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 4.1% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France stood at -13.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-25.5% per year) and the Netherlands (-10.2% per year).

The average roasted malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
