Sorghum Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese sorghum market contracted sharply to $X in 2022, shrinking by -42.7% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia totaled $X per ton.

In 2022, approx. X tons of sorghum were imported into Vietnam; falling by -42.5% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 572%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sorghum imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 577% against the previous year. In 2022, Ukraine (X tons) constituted the largest sorghum supplier to Vietnam, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, sorghum imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (X tons), twofold. In value terms, Australia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sorghum to Vietnam, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Australia stood at -5.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-10.2% per year) and India (-27.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 236%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
