Starter Motor Market Size in Vietnam

In 2021, the Vietnamese starter motor market decreased by -47.5% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, showed a moderate expansion. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, starter motor exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Japan (X units), Brazil (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main destinations of starter motor exports from Vietnam, with a combined 85% share of total exports.

The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Philippines ($X per unit) and Japan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per unit) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of starter motors and dual purpose starter generators decreased by -37.2% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 50%. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, starter motor imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. China (X units), South Korea (X units) and Japan (X units) were the main suppliers of starter motor imports to Vietnam, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Indonesia, Thailand, Russia and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
