Tomato Market Size in Vietnam

In 2021, the Vietnamese tomato market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Tomato exports from Vietnam surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 39% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 358% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tomato exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 275% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of tomato exports from Vietnam, together comprising 100% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +78.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X) constituted the largest markets for tomato exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (-1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, tomato imports into Vietnam expanded modestly to X tons, growing by 2.5% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 683% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
