In 2021, shipments abroad of uncooked pasta (containing eggs) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncooked pasta exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 153%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Samoa (X tons), the United States (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta exports from Vietnam, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Russia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Taiwan (Chinese), Lao People's Democratic Republic, Ethiopia, the UK, Singapore and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +48.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Samoa ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest markets for uncooked pasta exported from Vietnam worldwide, with a combined 55% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the UK, Romania, Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +47.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average uncooked pasta export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, uncooked pasta imports into Vietnam expanded notably to X tons, increasing by 11% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 483%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 514%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of uncooked pasta imports to Vietnam, with a combined 56% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +76.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest uncooked pasta suppliers to Vietnam were Italy ($X), Singapore ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +67.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average uncooked pasta import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Australia ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
