After four years of growth, the Vietnamese waffle and wafer market decreased by -2.2% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Waffle and wafer consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 226% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 174%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

China (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of waffle and wafer exports from Vietnam, with a combined 53% share of total exports. Malaysia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Cambodia, Angola, the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Angola (with a CAGR of +71.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for waffle and wafer exported from Vietnam were China ($X), the Philippines ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 54% share of total exports. Malaysia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Cambodia, Angola, the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Angola, with a CAGR of +76.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average waffle and wafer export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of waffles and wafers imported into Vietnam amounted to X tons, approximately reflecting 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 65%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, waffle and wafer imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 46%. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia stood at +16.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+16.8% per year) and China (+63.5% per year).

The average waffle and wafer import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 23%.
