Wool Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese wool market dropped to $X in 2022, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons) was the main destination for wool exports from Vietnam, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

Imports into Vietnam

Wool imports into Vietnam fell to X tons in 2022, declining by -9.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 289%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wool imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 365%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Australia (X tons), China (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of wool imports to Vietnam, together comprising 78% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +118.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest wool suppliers to Vietnam were Australia ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

The average wool import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
