Woven Carpet Market Size in Vietnam

The Vietnamese woven carpet market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after four years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a deep reduction. Woven carpet consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

South Korea (X square meters) was the main destination for woven carpet exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, woven carpet exports to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X square meters), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to South Korea stood at +51.8%.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven carpets and other woven textile coverings exports from Vietnam, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Korea stood at +49.9%.

The average woven carpet export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 6.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to South Korea stood at $X per square meter.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+0.0%).

Imports into Vietnam

In 2022, woven carpet imports into Vietnam reduced modestly to X square meters, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 155%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, woven carpet imports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 154% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of woven carpet to Vietnam, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, woven carpet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X square meters), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Indonesia (X square meters), with a 7.8% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings to Vietnam, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+6.3% per year) and Indonesia (-24.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average woven carpet import price amounted to $X per square meter, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, woven carpet import price decreased by -6.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 55%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter), while the price for Malaysia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
