Exports from Vietnam
In 2021, man-made filament fabric exports from Vietnam surged to X tons, increasing by 61% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight reduction. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Myanmar (X tons) was the main destination for man-made filament fabric exports from Vietnam, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, man-made filament fabric exports to Myanmar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Myanmar stood at +64.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+8.4% per year) and China (-4.6% per year).
In value terms, Myanmar ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers exports from Vietnam, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Myanmar totaled +68.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+7.6% per year) and China (-8.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average man-made filament fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -20.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 136%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam
In 2021, the amount of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers imported into Vietnam expanded remarkably to X tons, surging by 7.2% against 2020. Over the period under review, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -13.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of man-made filament fabric to Vietnam, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, man-made filament fabric imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +10.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+176.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers to Vietnam, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Myanmar ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +13.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+162.3% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average man-made filament fabric import price amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, man-made filament fabric import price increased by +4.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 62%.
