Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, adhesive dressings exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 91%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Benin (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together constituting 94% of total exports. The following exporters - Senegal (X kg) and Togo (X kg) - each amounted to a 4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +18.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Guinea ($X) remains the largest adhesive dressings supplier in Western Africa, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with an 8.7% share.
In Guinea, adhesive dressings exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Benin (-16.0% per year) and Senegal (+7.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -18.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, adhesive dressings imports in Western Africa fell dramatically to X tons, reducing by -18.6% on 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 323%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, adhesive dressings imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 100%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the main importer of adhesive dressings or similar articles in Western Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 46% of total imports in 2021. Ghana (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 40% share of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons) and Benin (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+23.0%), Mali (+20.4%), Senegal (+20.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+14.9%) and Benin (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2021. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire increased by +13, +4.7, +4.7, +3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest adhesive dressings importing markets in Western Africa were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso and Benin, which together accounted for a further 28%.
Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +28.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 38%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
