From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ammonium chloride imports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Nigeria prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), making up a 5.6% share of total imports. The following importers - Mali (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) - together made up 5.3% of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ammonium chloride imports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2021. Senegal (-8.6%), Ghana (-17.0%) and Mali (-34.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+67 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana and Mali saw its share reduced by -3.3% and -56.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ammonium chloride in Western Africa, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to +10.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (-1.5% per year) and Ghana (-19.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 42% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 50%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
