In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in the West African antisera market, when its value decreased by -4.6% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a resilient expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, antisera production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. In 2021, overseas shipments of antisera and other blood fractions increased by 20% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Burkina Faso (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) were the major exporters of antisera and other blood fractions in 2021, resulting at near 30% and 27% of total exports, respectively. Senegal (X kg) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Liberia (14%), Nigeria (6.5%) and Togo (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +112.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 482%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Mauritania, with an 8.1% share.
