The West African aromatic polyamines market declined slightly to $X in 2021, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year. In 2017, overseas shipments of aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof increased by 119% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 688% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2017 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, aromatic polyamines exports soared to $X in 2017. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2017, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2017, Senegal (X tons) was the major exporter of aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof, generating 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), making up an 18% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% from 2012 to 2017. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+29.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012-2017. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2017, the share of Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire increased by +18 and +4.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest aromatic polyamines supplier in Western Africa, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2017, the average annual growth rate of value in Senegal totaled -20.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+853.7% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+41.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2017, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a sharp setback. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2017, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, the amount of aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof imported in Western Africa fell to X tons, with a decrease of -6.7% on the previous year. In general, imports recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic polyamines imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 48%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 51% of total imports. Niger (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Benin (X tons) and Guinea (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Guinea (with a CAGR of +103.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Niger ($X) and Guinea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 81% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +73.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
