Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2017, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, artificial staple fibre exports amounted to $X in 2017. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous descent. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2017, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Togo (X kg) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2017.
Togo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial staple fibres exports, with a CAGR of +61.0% from 2012 to 2017. While the share of Togo (+99 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In Togo, artificial staple fibre exports increased at an average annual rate of +90.9% over the period from 2012-2017.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2017, increasing by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a precipitous setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 81%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2017, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Togo.
From 2012 to 2017, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Togo amounted to +18.5% per year.

Imports in Western Africa
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of artificial staple fibres decreased by -43.5% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, artificial staple fibre imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the key importer of artificial staple fibres in Western Africa, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 60% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), constituting a 38% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +14.4%).
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial staple fibres in Western Africa, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria totaled +18.2%.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, artificial staple fibre import price increased by +34.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Senegal totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+6.8%).
