In general, exports faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby clothes exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) represented the key exporter of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted), comprising 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X kg), Senegal (X kg), Sierra Leone (X kg) and Niger (X kg), together comprising a 39% share of total exports. Togo (X kg) and Mali (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) exports, with a CAGR of +32.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Senegal (+19.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Mali (-9.4%), Niger (-10.2%), Sierra Leone (-12.5%), Ghana (-20.7%) and Togo (-29.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria and Senegal increased by +49 and +11 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest baby clothes supplier in Western Africa, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Sierra Leone, with a 15% share.

In Ghana, baby clothes exports contracted by an average annual rate of -14.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Senegal (+19.6% per year) and Sierra Leone (-11.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) were imported in Western Africa; surging by 233% against the previous year. Overall, imports showed a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, baby clothes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 90%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012-2022. While the share of Senegal (+2.1 p.p.) and Togo (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) in Western Africa, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Togo, with a 5% share.

In Nigeria, baby clothes imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+9.0% per year) and Togo (+1.8% per year).
