As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bed linen of cotton exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Cote d'Ivoire represented the major exporter of bed linen of cotton in Western Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 43% of total exports in 2022. Nigeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Mali (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 50% share of total exports. Ghana (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bed linen of cotton exports, with a CAGR of +56.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guinea (+41.2%), Nigeria (+12.8%), Mali (+9.8%) and Senegal (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Togo (-5.9%) and Ghana (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Cote d'Ivoire (+42 p.p.), Guinea (+8.6 p.p.) and Nigeria (+4.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ghana (-15.6 p.p.) and Togo (-27 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest bed linen of cotton supplying countries in Western Africa were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Guinea ($X) and Mali ($X), together comprising 67% of total exports.
Guinea, with a CAGR of +56.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
Bed linen of cotton imports surged to X tons in 2022, picking up by 51% on 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +84.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bed linen of cotton imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Senegal represented the main importer of bed linen of cotton in Western Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 35% share of total imports. The following importers - Mali (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) - each finished at a 7.9% share of total imports.
Imports into Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +22.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+32.0%), Mali (+14.4%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+8.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +32.0% from 2012-2022. Cabo Verde, Ghana and Burkina Faso experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Senegal (+37 p.p.), Nigeria (+8.7 p.p.) and Mali (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cabo Verde, Burkina Faso and Ghana saw its share reduced by -3%, -6.4% and -12.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 65% of total imports.
Nigeria, with a CAGR of +42.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
