Mauritania (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Guinea (X tons). All these countries together took near 34% share of total imports. Nigeria (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mauritania (with a CAGR of +23.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Guinea, Benin, Mauritania and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

Among the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -3.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, blood-grouping reagents import price decreased by -9.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 81%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
