Blueberry And Cranberry Market Size in Western Africa

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 12%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Nigeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Guinea-Bissau (X tons), with a combined 92% share of total production. Mauritania and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.4%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +2.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Blueberry And Cranberry Exports
Exports in Western Africa
In 2022, overseas shipments of blueberries and cranberries decreased by -21.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 649%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 538%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Ghana was the major exporter of blueberries and cranberries in Western Africa, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritania (X tons), mixing up a 37% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mauritania (with a CAGR of +47.9%).
In value terms, the largest blueberry and cranberry supplying countries in Western Africa were Ghana ($X) and Mauritania ($X).
Mauritania, with a CAGR of +33.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 187%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Mauritania totaled $X per ton.

Blueberry And Cranberry Imports
Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, approx. X tons of blueberries and cranberries were imported in Western Africa; declining by -24.9% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 149%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports plummeted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 165% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), making up a 5.8% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the blueberries and cranberries imports, with a CAGR of +78.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria increased by +87 percentage points.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported blueberries and cranberries in Western Africa, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 2.9% share of total imports.
In Nigeria, blueberry and cranberry imports increased at an average annual rate of +82.7% over the period from 2012-2022.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 94%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ghana amounted to $X per ton.
