In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong expansion. Togo (X tons) and Liberia (X tons) represented the main exporters of brassieres, girdles and corsets in 2021, recording approx. 40% and 29% of total exports, respectively. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Sierra Leone (X tons). All these countries together held near 28% share of total exports. Mauritania (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +53.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Liberia ($X), Togo ($X) and Sierra Leone ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 80% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire and Mauritania, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Among the main exporting countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +46.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

Brassiere, girdle and corset imports rose sharply to X tons in 2021, growing by 7.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a significant decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the key importer of brassieres, girdles and corsets in Western Africa, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 59% of total imports in 2021. Guinea (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Liberia (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brassieres, girdles and corsets imports, with a CAGR of +12.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+11.8%) and Guinea (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Liberia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brassieres, girdles and corsets in Western Africa, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guinea ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Liberia, with a 5.6% share.

In Ghana, brassiere, girdle and corset imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Guinea (+4.8% per year) and Liberia (-0.6% per year).
