In 2021, the West African bridge market decreased by -3.4% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In value terms, bridge exports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports faced a abrupt downturn. Burkina Faso (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented roughly 66% of total exports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (7.6%), Togo (6.4%) and Cote d'Ivoire (6.1%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +47.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest bridge supplying countries in Western Africa were Burkina Faso ($X), Mauritania ($X) and Togo ($X), with a combined 63% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 139%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bridge imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
