Burkina Faso (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented roughly 66% of total exports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (7.6%), Togo (6.4%) and Cote d'Ivoire (6.1%).

In value terms, bridge imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 210% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons), distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Mali (X tons) represented the key importers of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), together creating 82% of total imports. Benin (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
