In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -13.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 30%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
Buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports expanded notably to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 10% on 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a strong increase. The following importers - Guinea-Bissau (X tons) and Mali (X tons) - each recorded a 6.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports into Nigeria stood at +4.2%. At the same time, Guinea (+21.2%), Guinea-Bissau (+17.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+17.1%), Mali (+15.2%) and Ghana (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +21.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Togo (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported buttermilk and buttermilk powder in Western Africa, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria stood at +6.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+3.4% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+24.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
