Ghana prevails in exports structure, amounting to X square meters, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2022. Nigeria (X square meters) held a minor share of total exports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ceramic tiles exports, with a CAGR of +53.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+23.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Ghana (+58 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-4.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest ceramic tile supplier in Western Africa, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Ghana totaled +46.4%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per square meter, dropping by -20.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per square meter), while Nigeria amounted to $X per square meter.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X square meters of ceramic tiles were imported in Western Africa; approximately equating the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of ceramic tile imports in 2022 were Senegal (X square meters), Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters), Nigeria (X square meters) and Ghana (X square meters), together accounting for 61% of total import. Mauritania (X square meters) took a 6.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Guinea (6.5%), Togo (6.4%) and Benin (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Senegal ($X) and Ghana ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Benin, Togo and Mauritania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +15.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2022, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per square meter), while Mauritania ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
