The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 238%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sour cherry exports totaled $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,282% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a resilient expansion. In 2022, overseas purchases of sour cherries decreased by -15.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 651% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sour cherry imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 245%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Senegal was the main importer of sour cherries in Western Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 44% of total imports in 2022. Cabo Verde (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons). All these countries together took near 49% share of total imports. Nigeria (X kg) and Mauritania (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +47.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Cabo Verde ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +59.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
